• Why is That Impossible?

  • Have you ever seen the movie Braveheart?  It’s not something for the younger kids, but for mature teens and adults it is can be very inspirational.  If you haven’t seen it, please know that there are graphic battles scenes.

My wife and I and our two oldest sons were watching a portion of it the other night.  William Wallace (Mel Gibson) met the English on the battlefield and won a tremendous victory.  Afterwards he was being knighted by the Scottish nobles.  The nobles quickly turned a joyous event into a political squabble and so William Wallace started to leave.

As he was leaving, one of the nobles shouted after him “Sir William, where are you going?”  He replied, “I am going to invade England and defeat the English on their own ground.”  “That’s impossible!” shouted a noble.  “Why?” said Wallace.  “Why is that impossible?  You’re so concerned with squabbling for the scraps from Longshanks’ table that you’ve missed your God-given right to something better.”

What a fantastic attitude of faith, belief and determination to overcome what to most people seemed like impossible odds.  We were so inspired watching this.  It renewed in our hearts the vision, dreams and goals we have set before us.

When life seems impossible and the tasks before you insurmountable, that is where the rubber really meets the road.  That is where your fears and your faith collide.  Which one will win?

When someone tells you that something you have decided to do is impossible, what are you going to do?  You have a choice to make.  Hopefully you will have already made the decision before you get there.

Ask them why it’s impossible.  When they give you their excuses, smile and say – Watch me.
