  • Our instructors are internationally ranked and study directly under the current president of The Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan Association- Hanshi Judan Minoru Nakazato Sensei. Jim Wick Sensei travels to Naha, Okinawa annually to train at the Humbo Dojo directly under Minoru Sensei. The Shorin-ryu Shorinkan Organization is an internationally recognized and highly respected style practiced under the direct supervision of Hanshi Judan Minoru Nakazato Sensei. The Shorinkan style boasts a direct and active connection to the Island of Okinawa with a direct lineage to Shugoro Nakazato Sensei, Chosin Chibana Sensei, and Anko Itosu Sensei. We are a traditional Okinawan Karate dojo. Ganbatte kudasai!

    Head Instructor Shorinkan Karate

    1st Dan Kobudo

    Jim Wick Sensei is the Head Instructor at Shorinkan Family Karate in Cañon City, Colorado. Jim Sensei currently holds the rank of 2nd Dan as awarded by Hanshi Judan Shugoro Nakazato Sensei.  Jim Sensei travels annually to Naha, Okinawa to train in the Humbo Dojo directly under Shugoro Nakazato Sensei and Minoru Nakazato Sensei. Jim Sensei is married to Kelly Wick, our Lil' Dragons instructor. Jim Sensei and wife Kelly have three children Zoe, Xander, and Zachary who also participate in the martial arts. Jim Sensei also owns and operates Lost Paddle Rafting at the Royal Gorge and has been guiding whitewater since 2001.

  • Braden Gillespie Sensei

    Shodan Shorinkan Karate

    Braden Gillespie Sensei currently holds the rank of 1st Dan. Braden Sensei has practiced Shorin-ryu Shorinkan Karate for over a decade, and more recently has began the study of Kobudo. His love of martial arts and dedication to the Shorinkan Family Dojo is unparalleled.

  • Kelly Wick Sensei

    1st Kyu Shorinkan Karate

    Kelly Sensei is the Lil' Dragons head instructor at Shorinkan Family. She has been teaching at SFK since 2016 and has been dedicated to the study of Shorinkan Karate. She is looking forward to testing for Shodan while continuing to show the kids in our community just how mush fun karate can be!
