• Who are You Hanging With?

  • Let me start with a couple of quotes.  Oprah Winfrey said “Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher.  Life is already filled with those who want to bring you down.”   And Jim Rohn said “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”

I totally agree with Oprah’s quote and mostly agree with Jim Rohn’s.  I believe the intent of Jim’s quote is that you eventually become like the people you spend time with.  They can bring you up as much as they can bring you down.

So let me ask you, Who are you hanging with?

All of us have been around people that suck the life right out of you.  Sometimes it makes you feel like running out of the room screaming, doesn’t it?  Ugh.  It drives me nuts.  I try to quickly and graciously end my time with that person because I do not want to be pulled down into the pit of despair in which they are living.  Now I am not talking about someone who has a problem and just needs someone to listen.  I am talking about those that you know are constantly negative about every subject under the sun.  If you spend too much time with them, it feels like you need a bath afterwards.  Those people can destroy your dreams and your vision.  Don’t let it happen.

Look at your circle of friends right now.  You probably share many things in common.  Birds of a feather flock together.  Are these the kind of people that are helping encourage you towards fulfilling your dreams and goals?  If not, you may need to expand your relationships.

What kind of person are you?  Do you lift your friends up?  Or are you the negative one?

Do your friends bring you down?  Are they continually sharing how bad things are and are always negative?  Do you feel confused or depressed after spending time with them?

So let me ask you again, Who are you hanging with?
