Tick Tock, Tick Tock.
Time passes so quickly.
By the time you finish this article (average 400 word article read in 2 minutes):
- 196,000 tweets will be sent
- 1,390,000 facebook status updates
- 3000 blogs posts are uploaded (this blog will be one of them)
- 26,000 apps are downloaded on iphones
- 336,000,000 emails are sent
These stats are actually about two years old, so I am sure much more takes place now.
Look at how much of life just blazes right by us in two minutes as described above. Can you keep up with it all? No. Do you have to? No.
Sometimes it is really easy to get caught up in this high tech world we live in and life just passes us by. Have you ever logged online, visited facebook, checked your email, shopped, checked the news, started surfing, got lost in space…and then all of a sudden you looked at the time and realized that you just wasted an hour or two doing absolutely nothing? Or at least doing nothing that adds any real value to your life? Or to your family? Or to your business? I’m sure you have. Most (if not all) of us have done that.
That is most definitely a waste of time. Time that we can’t spare. Do you have goals and dreams you want to accomplish? Will you accomplish them by visiting all your friends on facebook to see what they are up to? Certainly not. For you 40+ adults reading this, remember growing up when we only had a landline that wasn’t even cordless? How about our wonderful 5 or 6 channels on tv where you had to add aluminum foil to the antennas to get a clear picture? The only computers we saw were when we were watching Star Trek.
Times have changed. Radically changed. Don’t let yourself or your family be sucked into the vortex of ever changing electronics. How about a challenge? Give up facebook for a week or a month. Whoa! I felt your gasp from here. How about 24 hours? I think you may be shocked at how many times you will “feel the urge” to check it. For those of you not on facebook, maybe set your cell phone aside for a day or two. No texting! Do something out of the ordinary. Find whatever is sucking your time from you and make a change.
How did you ever live without facebook or texting before? Do you remember? You had more time. Time to do what really matters to you.
Tick tock, tick tock.
