In January I talked about setting goals, making plans to achieve them and implementing those plans.
In February I gave the example of my friend Ted having perseverance. When things get hard, you have to stick with it to be successful.
This month I want to talk about having a spirit of excellence.
How many of you like to do things half-heartedly? I don’t, although I am guilty of it in the past. Is it worth it to even put half of an attempt at it? Not really. I know you probably have to do things that you don’t like to do, but it can make the situation worse if you have a bad attitude about it. Why not just do those boring, irritating, menial tasks with a spirit of excellence?
How about the things you like to do? Do you do those things with all your heart? Do you strive to be the best you can be? Do you really try to offer the best customer service available? Or do you just do enough to get by? Don’t settle for mediocrity. It is so not worth it.
Some synonyms for excellence are: first-rateness, greatness, perfection, superiority and supremacy. So the next time you are cleaning the toilet, washing dishes, entering boring data on a spreadsheet, swinging a hammer, scanning items at the register, cooking, practicing an instrument or whatever it is you have to do or like to do…Do it with a “Spirit of Excellence.”
More on this next time…
