How are you living today?
Are you walking in faith or or are you living in fear?
My wife and I had dinner with some friends last night and we were challenging and encouraging one another to step out in faith in whatever we do. Too often in life we let our circumstances dictate the direction we will go. Whoever said that’s the only answer? That person should be shot. Oh wait, that’s me. And that’s you. OK, let me re-phrase that.
When we allow ourselves to become overwhelmed by our situation and let the current drag us wherever it wants to, then it’s time to become like salmon and swim upstream. We need to stop looking at the problems and start looking for solutions. If you believe in God, then you need to keep your focus on Him and not on the turmoil.
Our fear can keep us paralyzed. Have you ever felt like that? Afraid to move, afraid to fail, so fearful that you just don’t do anything – so you escape in a book or a movie or in food or some other indulgence. Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt -moved on!
Time to step out in faith. Believe for the impossible. Stop talking and speaking confusion, discouragement and death over your life and situation, because that will become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Start speaking, planning, believing and stepping out in faith over your life and situation. Walk by faith, not by sight.
Have you ever seen the movie Evan Almighty? I laughed out loud when he stood in front of the mirror and said “Successful, Powerful, Handsome, Happy.” One day jokingly I did that. but then I realized – there is some reality in it. Now I occasionally do it, mostly for fun because I can’t stop picturing Steve Carrell in my mind, but part of me truly believes it. At least the successful and happy part. I am not concerned about the powerful part and as long as my wife thinks I am handsome, I’m good.
So back to the first question – How are you living today? Choose wisely.
