• Seven Things to Know Before Choosing a Martial Arts School – Part Seven by Sensei Paul Pearson

  • This is the final part in our series of 7 things to know before choosing a martial arts school. Does the school have a character building program besides all the kicking and punching? Do they have a specific time set aside in class to address this topic? Does the school teach life and safety skills? Does the school talk about how to deal with bullies or does the school create bullies? There is so much more to martial arts besides the physical aspects. The confidence and discipline that comes from the martial arts can be of tremendous value. Respect is another topic that you may hear talked about in martial arts schools. Respect is something that should be mutually demonstrated between instructors and students. It should not be one sided – i.e. the instructor demanding to be respected, but not showing respect back to students. Good character is something that all of us should continually display and strive for throughout our lives. A good definition of integrity is that there is never a wrong time to do the right thing. All seven parts in this series are important things to consider before choosing a school. This is by no means an all inclusive list. I hope the best for you as search for a martial arts school that is right for you.
