• Seven Things to Know Before Choosing a Martial Arts School – Part Three by Sensei Paul Pearson

  • Watching classes – Is there an area for parents and other family members to sit and enjoy the classes? It is very important for parents to be involved in their child’s martial arts classes. A good school will always encourage parents to watch the classes in action. This will enable the parent to talk to the instructors about any concerns they may have. Beware of any school that does not allow parents to watch the instructors work with the children. If an instructor tells you that they don’t want the student to be distracted by your presence, don’t accept that as a legitimate reason. There is not one valid reason that an instructor can give you to not be able to watch the classes. Most likely the real reason is that they do not want you to see how they treat your child. If you are not allowed to watch classes or see how the instructors interact with the students, I highly suggest not to join the school. Next time – A safe place.
